UFC President Dana White has announced through ESPN on ‘Jim Rome is Burning’ that Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will face Chael Sonnen on August 7 after having choice words for the champion. The winner of the match will face Vitor Belfort in a matchup that is targeted for November.
Middleweight title holder as well as pound for pound king Anderson “The Spider” Silva has ruled in the 185-pound division since the year 2006. Chael Sonnen on the other hand has the style and determination to beat Silva and become a winner. However, the chances are there that Silva will prove himself again and win this battle.

Sonnen has earned the right to take Silva on after beating Nate Marquardt by a common decision in UFC 109. But does he have what it takes to beat Silva? UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen can be a matchup to keep Silva active.
Anderson Silva has only fought once this year. He also took a boring common decision over Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist Damian Maia in UFC 112 which was his first bout since last August. White has also threatened to cut Silva from the UFC if he fights the same way in which he did in his last bout in Abu Dhabi. “I’m telling you right now, if he acts like that again in the ring, I will cut him,” said White. “I don’t care if he’s the pound for pound best fighter in the world. I don’t care if he’s the middleweight champion.”
