Why “Stand Up to Cancer”?
“Stand Up to Cancer” telethon is one of the most popular fund raising TV events that support cancer awareness and research. The money raised from the event will b e dedicated to research on the fatal disease that takes nearly 1500 lives each day across the world. Besides such an event also paves the way for mass awareness and can lead to a movement that can compel the government to take necessary measures to eradicate cancer from the face of the earth.
How ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ can help eradicate cancer?
Over $83 million of the total raised money is so far given to five “dream teams” of researchers and to 13 scientists working against cancer. But that is just one part of the fundraising event. They are eventually planning to take it to the government level and make necessary changes to make a cancer free world.
Laura Ziskin, SU2C co-founder, executive producer as well as a cancer survivor said “Plain and simple, cancer takes too much from us. Loved ones lost to it, pain and suffering endured by those in treatment, even the recent report that cancer has the most devastating economic impact of any cause of death…this disease exacts a very high price. We want people all over the country to rise up and say, ‘ENOUGH!’
She also added “Tune in on Sept. 10th to see your favorite stars, who’ll ask, ‘Will you stand up with us?’ Person by person, saying ‘yes’ moves us toward a goal completely within our grasp: a world without cancer. A donation of any size brings scientists one step closer to a cure.”
So, do not forget to tune into any of these satellite TV channels at 8PM tonight and show your support towards the cancer research and its possible eradication… It is really time to Stand Up to Cancer.
