• Free Color TV – In 1962 the Swedish national TV offered a 5-minute special on how one can get color TV by placing a nylon stocking in front of the TV (silly joke! Even a baby knows it’s not possible). This also included an “in-depth” description on the physics behind the feature.
• Smell-o-vision – In 1965, BBC reported that they want to conduct a trial of a new technology called Smell-o-vision that allows the transmission of odor over the airwaves to all viewers. And believe it or not! A number of viewers reportedly contacted the BBC to report the trial’s success. It was sooo successful that in 2007, the BBC website repeated an online version of this hoax.
• Digital Big Ben – In 1980, the BBC reported that there is a proposed change to the famous Big Ben. The reporters said that the clock would go digital. UK was in a state of shock. Yeah… me too!
• Flying Penguins – In 2008, the BBC reported on a newly discovered colony of flying penguins!!! An elaborate video segment was produced featuring Terry Jones. OMG! BBC really knows how to tickle the funny bone!
• The Trouble with Tracy – In 2003, The Comedy Network in Canada announced that it would produce and air a remake of the 1970s sitcom The Trouble with Tracy- one of the worst sitcoms ever produced. Several media outlets actually believed it.
• Diet Water – In 2004, British breakfast show GMTV produced a story claiming that Yorkshire Water was trialing a new ‘diet tap water’… Yorkshire Water received 10,000 enquiries from viewers.  Diet Tap Water!!!

Great news DISH Network viewers! You are able o watch WOOD-TV and WOTV-TV in West once again on DISH Network. The leading satellite TV provider in the United States and LIN Media, the parent company of these two Grand Rapids-based stations, has finally reached an agreement this weekend.

This has allowed DISH Network to resume re-transmission of LIN-owned as well as operated TV stations in as many as 17 U.S. Markets.

The re-transmission began on March 13 to over 100,000 DISH subscribers located in West Michigan these viewers were without WOOD-TV and WOTV-TV for eight days. Though the contract originally expired on March 1, the transmission had stopped March 5 over  dispute relating carriage fees.

The terms of the agreement by the two companies were not disclosed. However, both the companies issued statements on the same today.

Vincent Sadusky, LIN Media’s president and CEO has issued a statement thanking the viewers and the advertisers for their support – “We are pleased that our negotiations with DISH Network resulted in a fair resolution and a new retransmission consent agreement.”

DISH Network issued the following statement – “DISH Network is pleased to have reached a deal with LIN Media that restored local TV channels to customers in 17 markets. We sincerely appreciate the patience our customers have shown during this time. We will continue to work hard to offer more choices and the lowest everyday prices in the industry.”
