Meet Rima Fakih – Miss USA 2010

Rima Fakih - Miss USA 2010Guess who won the Miss USA 2010 crown this year? Hmm, you guessed it right – Rima Fakih, beautiful Miss Michigan 2010 was crowned Miss USA. She is a Arab-American who lives in Dearborn, Michigan. She was crowned Miss Michigan on September 19, 2009. We got to see the gala event through NBC channel on DISH Network on Sunday and witnessed a historical event. 24 years old Rima is the first Arab-American to win this prestigious title in 59 years.

Rima Fakih is a beauty with brains. She has majored in Economics and has also completed a minor in Business Administration. She also wants to go to law school. If you have seen her on DISH Network during the Miss USA TV event, then you must have understood she is more than just a pretty face. She has a great personality and a great figure.

This is a welcome achievement! And it came at a time when Arab-Americans are cast in a negative light in the American media. We hope this win can improve the media image. Fakih too hopes that her position will help break some myths about Arab-Americans. She wants to “show the world that there are Arabs who are beautiful, not only in looks but also on the inside. There are Arabs that are caring, that are good people, and who love the country they live in.”

But, she also wants to be recognized for who she is: “I want them to see that I am proud of who I am, but I also want them to see me for more than my background. I want them to see that I have beauty, that I have the brains to do this job well, but also that I am real, from inside out. My body is real- never been changed. My hair is real, never been dyed. I am as real as it gets!”
