Heard the latest buzz about DISH Network? The rumor is that DISH Network, the leadinf satellite TV provider in the United States is going to buy TiVo, the popular DVR company.

And guess what? The rumor itself did a lot good to the stocks of TiVo. According to Barron’s, TiVo’s stock rose four percent after rumors, that Dish Network is preparing to buy the DVR Company.
Earlier the year DISH Network, the leading satellite TV provider in the United States lost the legal battle to TiVo. So buying TiVO can be a way for DISH Network to put a stop to the legal battle with the DVR Company that has got the favorable verdict of the court.
TiVo holds a patent of a DVR software which is claimed to be used in DISH Network DVR systems. The verdict of the court has gone to TiVo. As per the verdict DISH Network is to give $300 million to the DVR company as damage charge and may also have to disable millions of DVR systems that are using this patented technology.
Although DISH TV is trying to pursued the court that the new DVR software of DISH no longer violates the DVR patent help by TiVo, the chances of overturning the decision of the court are still low.
If DISH Network acquires TiVo, it can put an end to the legal battle and also can gain a significant DVR service which can generate significant revenue from patent fees and licensing for years.
TiVo too can benefit from the deal. If the deal materializes, if will give TiVo a well established satellite TV partner with a sound customer base of over 14 million viewers across the nation.
