A federal court in Florida today issued a judgment of $51 million against Robert Ward.
Recently, Dish Network LLC, along with EchoStar Technologies LLC and NagraStar has won a large battle with piracy. This is an important anti-piracy victory. A federal court in Florida today issued a judgment of $51 million against Robert Ward. The person concerned posted software on the internet which allows the people to receive Dish Network program with the help on free to air receiver by illegal means. Thus the software is piracy software that is illegally taking away a fair share of revenue from Dish Network, the leading dish TV provider in the country.
In the summary of the judgment, the court has highlighted two significant points that will empower the companies as well as the entertainment industry as a whole to pursue people involved in this kind of piracies in future. The court made it clear that posting of such piracy software on the web leads to an infringement of Federal Communication Act. It has also mentioned that the statutory damages caused by this piracy will be calculated depending on the number of individuals who have downloaded this pirate software.
This decision can be marked as one very important decision against piracy and it will act as an important milestone in the anti-piracy drive.
