Dish Network Experiences Considerable Subscriber Growth in the 4th Quarter

Dish Network Corporation, which is considered as the low-cost pioneer in the pay TV industry of the United States has experienced a huge growth in the customers over the fourth quarter. In the subscription TV industry growth comes by snatching customers from other TV services providers and Dish Network is quite successful in that. In the fourth quarter of the year, the company has attracted a huge number of budget conscious customers with the help of an aggressive promotion.

As a result of the aggressive promotion campaign made by the company, it has gained as many as 249,000 customers over the current quarter and the numbers are still counting. It has happened in such a time when most of its rivals have lost their ground in the market. On the other hand the net income of the company has dropped 17.5% in the last quarter. However, with a huge growth in the subscribers, the investors are focusing more on that part rather than a fall in the total revenue.

Last year, dish TV started an aggressive advertising campaign which targeted DirecTV, one of its competitors in the pay TV industry. The campaign claimed that the entertainment plans of dish TV are cheaper than that of DirecTV. On the other hand DirecTV claimed that dish TV has compared dissimilar plans with DirecTV and hence sued the former for false advertising. The case, however, is still pending.

But the current upsurge in subscribers ensure that the advertising strategy of Dish Network might have clicked and have attracted the TV viewers of America, who are weary of the recession and are trying different cost cutting measures. The cost effective TV entertainment package have appealed to them.
