Great news gamers! DISH Network is going to be the first satellite TV provider to launch GSN HD across the nation. Yes, that is true! The majority owner DirecTV will not be launching the HD version of this popular gaming network.

Dish Network has said that GSN HD, the DISH Network HD version of Game Show Network (If you can’t remember the full-form of GSN, it’s all right! Neither do we…) is available to customers who will be opting for America’s Top 200 programming package and above.

GSN is a popular TV network owned by DirecTV as well as Sony Pictures Entertainment. DirecTV has acquired a 65% majority as part of a transaction with Liberty Media back in 2009. However, last week DirecTV stated that it sold a 5% stake in GSN for $60 million, which is a $25-million pre-tax gain. This reduces DirecTV’s stake in GSN to 60 %.) However, the network has not yet struck a deal for DirecTV HD carriage.

GSN has announced a round of launches of the GSN HD network since its launch in September 2010. Last December, it announced that the network was available to 3.5 million pay-TV subscribers through Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks as well as Service Electric Cablevision. According to the network’s website, the standard definition channel of GSN has 75 million subscribers.
